PLATFORM11+ EU-project's PLAY CONTEST for professionals
The contest ended 31.12.2011 and 16 new plays for young people was received.
The jury: Oulu City Theatre's Artistic Director Mikko Kouki, MA and Theatre Director Heta Haanperä and MA and Platform11+ Project Manager Sari Tanner. The Winner was announced at the Opening of the Festival on Monday 20.2. at 13.30.
PLATFORM11+ National Playwriters' Contest winner is Heikki Itänen
The professional jury consisted of Oulu City Theatre's Artistic Director Mikko Kouki, Platform11+ Project Manager Sari Tanner and Director Heta Haanperä. Itänen's text Liian vanha ja liian nuori –(Too Old and Too Young) is a funny and recognisable dialogue between parents and their 14-year-old son. The youth jury that consisted of a class of 13-year-olds from Oulu Myllytulli school and was chaired by Haanperä, also chose the same play as their winner. It was refreshing to portray a young person as an equal and thinking individual. The arguments presented by the main character to defend playing with computer games created laughter and joy within the youth jury.
Liian vanha ja liian nuori will premiere at Oulu City Theatre in late 2012 or the beginning of 2013, directed by Haanperä. Heikki Itänen (born. 1957) is a Finnish script and playwriter from Ruovesi, and he has written many TV and radio programmes and series during 1990-2010. Congratulations to Heikki Itänen!
Platform 11+ is an EU project that Oulu City Theatre is taking part during 2009-2013 to produce new plays, visual arts and professional theatre productions for and together with young people aged 11-15.The project is one of the largest international cooperations taking place in Europe today.
PLATFORM 11+ is an artistic network in which 13 Theatres from 12 European countries have joined together to collectively create new work for young people aged between 11 and 15 in both the Performing and Visual Arts. As the professional artists go about their work, the young people will be encouraged to express themselves artistically too. At the end of the four year project, PLATFORM 11+ wants to present a multi facetted portrait of a young European generation, whose presence at the beginning of the 21st century will be reflected in numerous works of art.
